The Thar Power Plant project in Pakistan is a coal-electricity integration project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and one of the priority development projects for implementing the Belt and Road Initiative and promoting the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. It has an installed capacity of 2×330 megawatts and is located in Sindh Province, approximately 25 kilometers southeast of Islamkot.
During its operational phase, the coal yard of the power plant can impact the surrounding environment, especially generating dust on windy days, necessitating appropriate environmental protection measures. The project employs wind control and dust suppression technology—windbreak dust suppression walls. When strong winds pass through these walls, they create interfering airflows behind the walls, significantly reducing wind speed and lowering the dust-carrying capacity of the wind. The windbreak and dust suppression walls on both sides of the coal yard have a total length of approximately 570 meters and a height of 14 meters. Similarly, on one side of the cooling tower, the windbreak and dust suppression wall is approximately 128 meters long and 14 meters high, and on one side of the backup coal yard, it is approximately 142 meters long and 14 meters high. The product was delivered at the end of 2017, utilizing a “modular” design approach with factory processing and on-site assembly using bolt connections. This approach not only significantly reduced construction time but also achieved remarkable dust suppression effects, while substantially saving on transportation costs.
