he Noise Control Project along the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (JBHSR) line aims to manage noise levels effectively. JBHSR is a high-speed railway connecting Jakarta and Bandung in Indonesia. It’s the first high-speed railway constructed outside China using Chinese standards and technology, with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour. It’s a landmark project of the Belt and Road Initiative and a strategic project for Indonesia. Construction began in June 2018, and the railway commenced operation on September 7, 2023.
Noise-sensitive areas along the JBHSR line are equipped with railway sound barriers. Bridge sound barriers have heights of 2.3 meters and 3.3 meters, with the upper 1 meter of the 3.3-meter barriers made of transparent soundproof panels. Embankment sound barriers come in heights of 3.05 meters and 4.05 meters, with the upper 1 meter of the 4.05-meter barriers consisting of transparent soundproof panels. Once constructed, these barriers reduce noise levels by over 30 decibels with a noise reduction coefficient of over 0.7. Implementing these barriers has improved the noise environment quality along the JBHSR line and near stations, meeting railway noise emission standards.
