Dust Pollution Control at the ThalNova Power Plant in Block II of Thar Coalfield, Pakistan

This project involves the construction of a new 335MW circulating fluidized bed coal-fired unit. The power plant is located in Islamkot, approximately 450 kilometers southeast of Karachi, Sindh Province, Pakistan, about 30 kilometers from the Indo-Pak border, 300 kilometers from Hyderabad, and 25 kilometers from Islamkot city.

During its operational phase, the coal yard of the power plant can impact the surrounding environment, especially generating dust on windy days, necessitating appropriate environmental protection measures. The project employs wind control and dust suppression technology—windbreak dust suppression walls. When strong winds pass through these walls, they create interfering airflows behind the walls, significantly reducing wind speed and lowering the dust-carrying capacity of the wind. The windbreak and dust suppression walls on both sides of the coal yard have a total length of approximately 374 meters and a height of 14 meters. Similarly, windbreak and dust suppression walls on both sides of the cooling tower are approximately 139.4 meters long and 14 meters high. The product was delivered in July 2020, utilizing a “modular” design approach with factory processing and on-site assembly using bolt connections. This approach not only significantly reduced construction time but also achieved remarkable dust suppression effects, while substantially saving on transportation costs.
